The Princess Castle Urn
Because urns are so reflective of loved ones and all the beauty they bring to our lives, choosing a custom urn is an important task. We can help make it easier with options for 3D-printed custom urns that will provide you with peace, comfort, and a reminder of what your loved one enjoyed while they were here with you.

About the Princess Castle Urn
Our customer, Joann, had this urn created for her young daughter, who wanted to be in a princess castle. Urns sized for children are meant to hold a smaller capacity of cremated remains, usually ranging between 50-100 cubic inches of ashes. When we originally printed this urn, there was a miscalculation regarding the volume of cremains, and the urn came out slightly too small. We quickly went in and used our 3D modeling software to adjust the original print files, so we could create Joann a new urn right away and make sure she could honor her daughter's wish.
Inspiration
When your daughter wants a princess castle, you do your best to bring her dream to life, and Joann trusted us with the creation of such a valuable reminder of her daughter's life. We were honored to be able to make the castle her daughter wanted so Joann could keep her daughter's memory close.
Process

Creating the Model
Creating the model for this urn began with using software for 3D modeling. Since the first urn came out a little too small, we spent more time on our modeling tasks to upsize the urn and get the right fit. Once the design was approved and the new size was ready, it was time to send the urn specs to the printer.
Printing
It can take up to 24 hours for a print to complete, and that's dependent on the size of the urn and the detail required. This urn was a little smaller than others, since it was designed for a child. After printing was done, it was time to move into post-printing.
Post-Printing Process
The hardening process is an important way to make sure the urn will hold up the way it should, and when it's completed we have clean-up and quality checks to work on. The final product needs to look just right, and we know the value of having an urn that truly emphasizes the person you've lost and respects their life and what they enjoyed.
Painting
In-house painting is next on the list when preparing an urn, and for this build we used purple and white as the main colors, with some pink detailing on the bricks. In true princess fashion, we also used glitter to make the entire urn sparkle and give it a magical feel.
Final Touches
One of our final touches on this urn was to make sure all the raised bricks were painted pink, and that we didn't miss or overlook anything that would take away from the beauty of the urn or the comfort it would provide to our customer. Then, it was time for packing and shipping.
Urn Details

While this urn didn't have as much detail as some of our other creations, one important detail was the raised bricks that we painted pink. This gave the castle more depth and reinforced everything a princess would be looking for in a great castle to call home.
The main roof of the castle comes off to insert the ashes, making it a convenient way to add them to the castle. Since the entire roof acts as a lid, this also doesn't detract from the overall style of the urn or make the access point noticeable or distracting.

The glitter really is the finishing touch on this princess castle urn. It's just enough to add a special feel, but it's still understated and elegant. We wanted to ensure Joann received an urn that was truly fit for a princess.
Gallery
The pictures here show how the lid fits onto the urn itself, so the ashes can easily be added, and the detail that went into the pink bricks and purple accents. By painting the windows, turrets, and doorways purple, the urn has beautiful accents and a great style that truly reflect what our customer was looking for. We were proud to provide Joann with an urn she felt was right for displaying her daughter's ashes, honoring her daughter's dream of a princess castle.
Behind the Scenes
A lot of detail goes into every urn we create, because the goal is to fully customize everything we print to the customer's wishes. Even before we start refining and painting the physical urn, we put care and effort into perfecting the digital model.
