The Panda Urn
An urn is a unique way to store the cremains of your loved one and honor their legacy and life. With nearly limitless options for 3D-printed cremation urns, you can have something that really fits a lost loved one's personality and encapsulates what they enjoyed while they were here with you.

About the Panda Urn
The Panda Urn was created for a customer whose late son loved pandas. The urn itself takes the shape of a panda. Along with requesting the panda, our customer also asked that we add an engraved name plate on the panda and cherry blossoms for the panda to hold. We learned a lot during this process, as it was a more unique design that required detail and increased levels of accuracy.
Inspiration
Our customer wanted to create a panda-shaped urn to memorialize her son by using his favorite animal. She was committed to showcasing her son and the joy that pandas brought him in life, and having the right urn was the best way to do that. With the right style and design, we were able to give her what she needed to protect her son's cremains and move through the process of grieving and saying goodbye.
Process

Creating the Model
Creating the panda model began with the use of software programs that provide 3D modeling capabilities. These take time, because they have to be designed with the full, complete, final product in mind. With this urn, the 3D model of the panda went through two revisions before we were satisfied with the detail. Once the model is customer approved, we can start the printing process.
Printing
The size of the final urn can affect the printing process and the time it takes, which may be as long as 24 hours. With this urn, the complexity caused the process to take a little longer than some of the other urns we've created. We printed the hind legs separately from the main body piece, and assembled all three parts together after the prints were complete.
Post-Printing Process
Quality checks are an important step in the post-printing process, and so is cleaning up. Both of these are addressed along with hardening, to ensure the final product is ready to move to the next step and get closer to completion.
Painting
We have an in-house painting team that's dedicated to quality and detail, so we can provide all our customers with an urn that's as realistic as it can be. For this urn, the peaceful expression on the panda's face was particularly important.
Final Touches
The panda's eyes, the delicate nature of the cherry blossoms, and the custom heart nameplate all came together as part of the final touches on this particular urn. The goal was to provide both quality and realism, so the customer could feel a sense of closure when they received their urn.
Urn Details

This urn had a significant amount of detail, both because of the nature of making an animal look realistic and because of the cherry blossoms the panda was holding. We wanted to ensure that the cherry blossoms looked fresh and vibrant, with the bright but soothing pink seen on real blossoms.
For the engraved nameplate, we chose a heart-shaped plate to go on the panda's chest. Having a custom engraved nameplate provided the urn with additional detail and allowed our customer to represent and acknowledge her son in a way that still made the actual panda a big focal point for display in her home.

The black and white pattern of the panda needed to match what would be seen on an actual panda. Textured indentations on the model and 3D print were created to further imitate the fur coat of a panda.
