About the Land Rover Defender Urn

When our customer Steven lost his brother, he knew that he wanted to keep his memory alive by recreating his brother's beloved Land Rover Defender as an urn. He sent us a lot of great photos, allowing us to create not just a Land Rover, but one that looked exactly like his brother's vehicle. It was fully customized, right down to the modification and details Steven's brother made on his original car.

Inspiration

Steven's whole family is a fan of off-roading, and the joy Steven's brother got from driving his Land Rover Defender was unparalleled. Now, whenever Steven and his family go on off-roading adventures, they take this sturdy urn along with them, allowing the brothers to continue to ride together and the Land Rover Defender to live on in miniature.

Process

Creating the Model

Creating this particular model began with all the photos our customer Steven sent us of his brother's beautiful vehicle. We used several software programs designed for 3D modeling to create a computer model based on Steven's brother's car. That took some time to get right, since there were many fine details in this vehicle. Once Steven approved the model, it was time for our 3D printer to get to work.

Printing

The process of printing a model can take nearly 24 hours, depending on the size and complexity. Due to its size, we printed the Land Rover in separate pieces that would be fitted together to create the complete model.

Post-Printing Process

After the printing is done, it's time for quality checks, clean-up, and the hardening process. This helps us make sure the urn looks just the way it should, and can help us correct any issues before it's time to get started on the paint.

Painting

We paint everything in-house to ensure we're following what the customer wants and giving them the detail they're hoping for. In this case, that was the bright, beautiful orange and black contrast of Steven's brother's Land Rover.

Final Touches

For this build we customized everything, right down to the license plate on the original vehicle. With custom touches like stickers, logos, and license plates, the urn felt like a true miniature of the Land Rover Steven's brother loved so much. When all that's done, it's time to get the urn ready for shipment.

Urn Details

Because Steven's brother had put so much love and customization into his Land Rover Defender, we needed to make sure we gave his 3D-printed urn the same care. From the right shade of orange for the paint color to the L05T K1D license plate, this urn was all about the details.

We took great care to recreate everything just the way it should be, so Steven could have a true memorial piece that upheld his brother's legacy. We didn't want to take a chance that a misplaced sticker or other small detail would be inaccurate and detract from the urn in any way.

From the winch on the front to the solid black tires with their aggressive, off-road tread, every little detail of Steven's brother's vehicle was right there in the urn that would hold his cremains and help his loved ones remember him.

You can see how the Land Rover looks ready for action, like you could roll it away and head out on a new adventure. The care that went into this urn goes into every one of the urns we make, because we know how much the right urn matters to a grieving family or friend group. Processing loss is hard, but the right memorial items can make that loss a little less painful, and help fond memories creep in.

Behind the Scenes

The fine detail work is a big part of what makes urns like the Land Rover look so great when they're done. This is a process we follow very carefully to ensure that everything is perfect and that there aren't going to be blemishes showing up to mar the beauty of memorializing your loved one.
