About the Genie Bottle Urn

The genie bottle urn is a unique piece that was handled start to finish by our premier 3D modeler and detailer, who first created the digital model and then brought it to life by painting the 3D print. Because of the elegant design and level of detail, this urn was a truly one-of-a-kind piece that was created to fully meet our customer's expectations. The right urn for a loved one is often extremely personal, and that was the challenge with this genie bottle urn. It wasn't just the shape, but also the colors and overall creative design that needed to work as a final resting place.

Inspiration

Our customer's lost loved one was named Jeannie, and a genie bottle was a clever pun and tribute to Jeannie's spirited personality. This genie bottle is different from a genie lamp, which has a very distinctive style that's iconic in film and print. The genie bottle has a more elegant look that really stands out and has a feeling of magical whimsy that comes along with it. The bright colors on a rich base, along with the eyes painted on the bottle, all come together to provide the feel our customer was looking for.

Process

Creating the Model

Creating any urn model begins with software programs that are specifically designed to be used for 3D modeling. This process takes time, since the final product has to be just right. With this model, our premier 3D modeler was focused not only on the overall design, but how the pieces would fit together and how the small details would be expressed in the shape of the bottle. After the model was created and our customer approved it, we moved on with printing.

Printing

The size and detail of the urn can affect the printing time, with some prints taking as long as 24 hours. While this urn wasn't extremely detailed in the actual printing process, it was large and needed to be printed in more than one piece. Patience during the printing process is key to having an urn that can be detailed and painted more easily.

Post-Printing Process

Once the printing is complete the urn has to harden, and we also have some cleaning up and quality checks to do. By committing to perfection in these steps, the final product will look just right after it's painted. After every detail has been examined and any adjustments made, it's time to paint the urn.

Painting

The genie bottle urn took significant time to paint. From the rich, deep color of the main bottle to all the detail in the patterns on it, extreme care went into this urn. Patterns that look like jewels, along with the eyes and other unique features, were all meticulously created by hand.

Final Touches

After the elaborate painting process of this urn, our 3D modeler and detailer carefully went over every aspect again for a final check. This helped ensure that the paint was perfect, everything was in its place, and the urn was ready for shipment.

Urn Details

This urn had an exceptionally high level of detail due to the painted patterns on multiple areas. With a pattern consisting of elegant lines coupled with dots of color, a precise hand was necessary during the painting process. Not only did the lines themselves need to be even and accurate, but the colorful dots needed to work with the lines and remain even, the right size, and properly spaced.

The top of the urn was also an exercise in detail and care, with gold design over the rich, maroon finish of the main bottle. Indentations created during the printing process indicated where the delicate gold paint would be used, and it was also placed on the very top of the bottle, capping it off in a bright fashion that blended well with the overall styling.

Gold, white, pink, and a deep orange were used for the detail on the lower part of the bottle, where the eyes were also painted. The colors and pattern added to the mysterious and magical look and feel of the urn, with the eyes creating a reminder that the genie was present and the bottle was occupied. This helped tie in the other patterned areas and more fully replicated what's expected when looking at genie bottles.

While we create all our urns with the utmost care, we don't frequently have urns that require the delicate painting and design that this one required.
