The center is a St. Benedict Metal which celebrated the 6th century Saint and his power over the Devil. The 1880 Jubilee celebrated his birth. The center reads in part, in Italian: Cross of the Holy Father Benedict, May we at our death be fortified by his presence, The Holy Cross be my light, Let not the dragon be my guide. And the initials: S M Q L I V B mean: Step back, Satan, do not suggest to me thy vanities — evil are the things thou profferest, drink thou thy own poison.
